Hello again. Another craft inspired by craft supplies purchased only at K-Mart. This idea features one of my favourite crafts of all time – origami flowers. I have mentioned these in a previous post. They are so simple to make and look so effective.
These are the supplies you will need – all purchased at K-Mart in the craft department – 5x Designer Paper Pads, Mini Terracotta Pots, Beads Kit, Set of Colour Pencils, Washi Tape and a Bag of White Stones (you will find these in the Home Wares section). You will also need scissors, PVA Glue and a glue gun (you can also buy all these items at K-Mart)
This is how you make this project…
Chose what colours you want to make your flowers from the pack of designer papers and pull the pages you need gently out of of each book – you will need 5 pages per flower to make a set of three – that’s 15 sheets. I have kept to the aqua colour theme but you can do any colours you like.
Make the flowers – I found this video on Youtube that will show you how to do the folding. I glue each petal with PVA glue and use pegs to hold them together while they dry. I find this holds better than using a glue stick.
I also construct the flower using my heated glue gun. This just makes this process much quicker and easier as the glue dries and holds a lot better and quicker than glue stick glue. While petals are drying you can stick the Washi tape onto the Terracotta Pots. Just wind the tape around the top of the pots a couple of times to cover top edge piece. Because the top of the pots is uneven you may find that the tape will crease a little but don’t worry about this – it just adds character to your pot. I have use 2 different coloured tapes for mine.
Once your flowers are made, gently shove a pencil up the center of each flower. Push the sharpened end in first and push it in so that it is level with the top of the flower.
Put flower with pencil stem into terracotta pot and position it in the center. Place rocks into pot around pencil as you hold it in place with one hand. Push rocks down firmly so that they hold the pencil in place. Fill to the top if the pot. If you find that the flower is not secure enough you can glue the pencil in place first with the glue gun.
Find three wooden beads that you like and glue these to the top of the flower with the glue gun.
Repeat for all three flowers. Your flower pots are now complete!
These are great for table decorations for a Birthday Party, Baby Shower or High Tea
